No matter how wisely you plan your move, there are still certain things that can ruin all of your preparations at once. Rain is one of them. It is like a guest that hit your door without prior notice. Most culture greets rain as a symbol of good luck. But, you probably don’t need it in the form of slick walkways, soaked stuff, and some extra mud. Clearly, it can create a great mess on your moving day.

But, worry not, in our fifteen years of service, we Guttenberg Movers have seen a lot of moving days with rains. And here we will share our pro tips to handle one like a pro.

How To Handle a Rainy Day Move Like a Pro

1. Set Aside Towels And Cleaning Supplies

Keep a box of towels handy during packing and loading. You can use them to wrap items to overcome brief rain exposure, dry off lightly damp items, and mop-up floor puddles. Additionally, you can put them over high-traffic walkways to avoid slicking. So, only put them on track once everything else is packed and loaded.

The same goes for your mop and bucket. Even though pro movers use floor protection, still there’s enough mud and foot-prints to deal with. Therefore, throw your mop and bucket last into the truck to have them ready-to-go.

2. Park the Truck Forthright Your Door And Use Non-Slip Shoes

Avoid open rainy sky as much as you can. Park the truck right up to your door and cover the porches. Covering the porches extends your rain-protected walk. This will prevent your commodities and the moving team from getting wet during the moving process.

Apart from this, make sure all of your family members and move-assisting team are wearing non-slipping shoes. The best to use are sneakers with rubber soles. Avoid sandals as they are too slippery. Also, watch out for urban sneaks as they become very slick in the rain.

3. Protect Boxes and Furniture To Avoid Rain Exposure

You need to figure out how you’ll transfer furniture and other commodities from the door to the truck and vice versa without getting them wet. Tarps are perfect for this. Although you can also use other items as well – show some creativity here. Like large trash bags are useful to wrap the furniture as it eliminates the moisture. Moreover, the tarp can fly away with the air, but trash bags can’t. If it’s drizzling, one can make use of towels and blankets to protect the items.

4. Make Use Of Plastic Crates

Plastic crates are easily available from home improvement stores. They’ are reusable and comes in different shapes and sizes. Go for the bigger ones as they are beneficial for fetching smaller items or boxes. Cover their open side with a plastic sheet. The sheet will work as a rain shield and will keep your things dry. Alternatively, you can put a rain shield plastic inside the crate and then load the items inside it. Empty the container into the truck and then return for another protected stack. This might seem time-consuming, but it is definitely worth to keep away moist from your items.

5. Final Tip – Towel All The Stuff in The Truck

Have someone inside the truck with towels to dry off items. This reduces the moisture inside the truck. Plus, it makes a big difference for lightly damp items. Lastly, towel off boxes, tarps, plastic wraps, and crates that got wet doing their job. Feel free to contact our expert Guttenberg and Weehawken movers for any related help.
